Easier taming
by Ugdalf
Oh well you cant ease that up as much as some ppl think its basically a skill check done on your actual level vs. a random generator that works with the animals taming difficulty value - but you
can cut down the dieing you will experience sooner or later just following a few rules of thumb as well as using a few additional skills (as recall: we dont have a skillcap here!).
1st. if you happen to try to tame something make sure it wont jump you and -- peace it -- if you can, if thats not possible for you, you should consider -- hurting -- that pet first as badly
damaged monsters walk pretty slow and in cases like dragons and nightmares their breath attack will not hurt as much as if they are full at health - to damage them easier -- discord
them -- as that will drop their damage resistance and cause you to dish out more damage.Take care though on those pets that you need to subjugate! That means you almost kill them and
better successfully tame them before their health gets back above a certain limit.. too few points of damage and it wont be tameable too many and it is dead (subjugates are giant
beetle/fire beetle dunno about more yet)And back to taming hints: train up stealth (needs 50 hiding first) and herding for mountable pets like nightmares and cu sidhes - lure them
off dangerous areas with -- herding -- as that wont reveal you it is gold worth, uh but dont forget that shepherds crook at home! Once you got that pet to a nice spot, well peace/discord
and/or hurt as you want to and then try to tame it.Another hiding hint: if you happen to lag at times and cant just outrun a monster to hide (needs to be few tiles
away) and cannot cast invisibility on yourself out of same reason or others .. try to take a smokebomb with you, thats tokuno loot from ninjas, must have 50 ninjitsu skill to use them.
It takes a skillcheck on hiding so if you just used a long delaying skill it wont help you, but else it will instantly hide you even if the thing you fight sits ontop of you! Doubt you need to
have hiding trained, but who doesnt train that skill at all? :))Well besides that - got a couple shrink potions with you - thats either buying them for 1k a
bottle of our special vendors or make them with alchemy, 20% chance on GM alchemy using up 10 batwings per try.Make sure you can feed whatever you tamed to start bonding process -
thats a 7 day period after which you have to feed the pet again (just stable it and/or shrink it or log it out as mount under an unused character of yours) to have a bonded pet then, which
follows you on recall spells (no gate needed anymore) and will leave a petghost once it dies that can be resurrected with high enough animal lore/veterinary (80+) with a couple bandages.
As i say that - make sure you can heal the pet if there is surrounding spawn it will get immediatly jumped once it is tame - and you cant just shrink in this situation, same if it
is poisoned (need 60+ in vet/animal lore or just cast magic/paladin cure spells). If it is a mount you can secure it then again if you hide close enough and jump up its back - again
as long as it isnt poisoned! If you are hidden & mounted you could use stealth skill and shadowjump away if you got enough ninjitsu, but always make sure that
this wont reveal you cause of low skill or too heavy armor (leather pieces and "mage armor" parts always help out on this - studded leather/ring or chainmail or bone and plate.. well
dont! hehe)Also dont try just to equip taming jewelry and have at the big things - taming and animal lore should match each other!dragons 93.9 nightmares 95.1 white wyrms 96.3
